Miller gave the Tumut trained six-year-old the perfect ride from the two barrier to hold out Strong Boy (Eleanor Webster-Hawes) by a long neck with a further two and one quarter lengths to DashExpress (John Kissick) in third place.

Miller allowed Sand Dune to settle behind the leading brigade on the run out of the straight on the first occasion with Strong Boy on his outside, keeping Scene of the Crime three wide for much of the journey.

Turning for home Miller was able to secure a lovely run to charge to the lead and hold off Strong Boy which looked a fleeting chance.

Sand Dune was the second leg of a winning double for trainer Kerry Weir and jockey Miller.

Sand Dune relished the heavy conditions to take out the day’s feature event after a drama charged start to the day’s racing.

Racing was held up for more than 30 minutes when the ambulance was delayed arriving at the track and patrons faced a further delay after the running of the first event when the barriers became bogged.

It was a huge credit to the Cowra club that the meeting went ahead despite the drama and the overnight drenching that saw more than one inch of rain dropped on the track.

Historically the Cowra track has always been a great wet weather track and this again proved to be the case yesterday.

Adam Gain and Andrew Molloy combined to take out the day’s other feature event the Breakout River Meats Japan Cowra Cup over 1200 metres with the flying Zarhron.

Third up from a break Zarhron obviously enjoyed the return to his home track to race away from Mineral Deposit (Greg Ryan) and Your Excellency (Brendan Ward).

Local punters had to wait until the last for success but were well rewarded with Zarhron returning $23.80 on the win tote.
